About us
The Doctoral School of Applied Informatics and Applied Mathematics (DSAIAM) is a prominent center for doctoral education at Obuda University. Its scientific profile is based on two closely related fields: applied informatics and applied mathematics. The mission of the Doctoral School is to train doctoral students capable of advanced theoretical preparation, independent research, high-quality publication, and integration into the scientific community.
The Doctoral School operates with two programs.

The Applied Informatics Program (leader: Prof. Dr. Imre Rudas) consists of four sub-programs:
I.1. Foundations and Applications of Informatics (leader: Prof. Dr. Annamária Várkonyi Kóczy)
I.2. Cyber-medical systems (leader: Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács)
I.3. Cyber-physical systems (leader: Prof. Dr. József Tar)
I.4. Engineering calculations and models (leader: Prof. Dr. Imre Rudas)
The Applied Mathematics Program (leader: Prof. Dr. Aurél Galántai) consists of two sub-programs:
M.1. Mathematical Foundations and Applications (leader: Prof. Dr. Aurél Galántai)
M.2. Engineering calculations and models – (leader: Prof. Dr. Imre Rudas)
The core elements of the Doctoral School’s operations include doctoral supervision, end-of-semester research reports, quality assurance, continuous monitoring of publication performance, and the maintenance of up-to-date ODT and institutional data. While adhering to regulatory frameworks, the Doctoral School strives to simultaneously strengthen international visibility, scientific performance, and practical relevance, with a particular focus on reducing the dropout rate and supporting students who have received their absolutorium (pre-degree certificate confirming the completion of all required credits for the doctoral degree) in the process of obtaining their doctoral degree.
Scientific Mission
The scientific mission of our Doctoral School is to foster doctoral research at the intersections of informatics and mathematics, as well as their shared domains of application, that simultaneously meet the requirements of scientific novelty, methodological rigor, international publishability, and practical utility.
The Doctoral School views the training of the next generation of researchers not merely as a program to prepare students for obtaining a degree, but as a process of scientific socialization. Through this process, doctoral candidates gradually evolve into independent researchers capable of formulating scientific problems, developing methodological solutions, critically interpreting their findings, and effectively communicating them to the scientific community.
The main instruments for the realization of this mission include strengthening supervisory responsibility, providing regular professional feedback to doctoral candidates, cultivating a strong publication culture, operating robust quality assurance mechanisms, and building domestic and international scientific relations.
Current Research Topics
DSAIAM’s research topics are aligned with the Doctoral School’s two programs and their respective sub-programs. The offered research topics are designed to provide a framework conducive to independent research, the mastery of scientific methodology, the attainment of significant scientific results, and their subsequent publication.
